Recordar el trigésimo tercer aniversario del fallecimiento de Luca Prodan implica, quizá, prestarle un poco de atención a las contradicciones con las cuales se produce cultura.
Luca Prodan nació en Roma, y vivió muchos años en Gran Bretaña. En Escocia recibió una educación de altísima calidad, específicamente en el Gordonstoun School, institución a la que solían concurrir los hijos de la realeza. Luego vivió en Londres, donde tomó contacto con la música rock, punk, dub y reggae.
A principios de los años 80 decidió venirse a vivir a La Cumbrecita, Córdoba y en Nono formó Sumo. Junto a Alejandro Sokol, Stephanie Nuttal, Germán Daffunchio, Diego Arnedo, Alberto Troglio, Roberto Pettinatto y Ricardo Mollo, a su tiempo, orbitando en torno a Luca, en Buenos Aires, se fueron creando cuatro discos memorables: Corpiños en la madrugada, Divididos por la felicidad, Llegando los monos y After Chabón. Imprescindibles.
Si la cultura rock es libertad, puede decirse, entonces, que un italiano, educado en Gran Bretaña, que cantaba en inglés, se fue convirtiendo en el máximo referente del rock argentino en los años inmediatamente posteriores al boom causado por la prohibición castrense de pasar canciones en ese idioma. Tampoco puede soslayarse, de ningún modo, el hecho de que el reggae de Sumo fue fundacional. En efecto, Luca not die.
